Public Health Update and Illness Procedure

March 2, 2020

Dear Childswork community,

You have likely seen the news about the first presumptive coronavirus COVID-19 cases in Oregon; the first was announced Friday evening. The individual believed to have contracted the virus is an employee at a Lake Oswego school.

We continue to monitor the situation in Lake Oswego, and we are in continual contact with government agencies and our public health partners, including Oregon Health Authority, Multnomah County, and the Oregon Department of Education.

The latest coronavirus information from Multnomah County can be found by scrolling to the end of this message.

At Childswork, we regard the safety of our families and staff with the utmost seriousness. We are taking the following precautionary measures:

  • On February 7, our cleaning company performed a school-wide electrostatic disinfecting.
  • We are in contact with them about completing another treatment.
  • On Sunday, March 1st, we disinfected the most commonly touched surfaces, including door knobs, stair rails, dispensers, water fountains, seating outside bathrooms, surfaces within the bathrooms, light switches, hand washing sinks, as well as surfaces in the kitchen and main office.
  • We have subscribed to Oregon Health Authority automatic updates for any changes or new information.
  • A new Disinfectant dispenser has been installed and filled in the kitchen, and additional supplies will arrive on Tuesday.

Here’s what each of you can do to help us with these efforts:

  • ALL people (adults and children) entering the building should wash their hands, according to Proper Hand Washing Procedures.
  • Everyone using the kitchen should wash hands before and after preparing food.
  • Everyone using the kitchen should wear gloves if preparing food.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, your sleeve, or your elbow, AND wash hands afterward.
  • Please stay home if you or someone in your house are experiencing symptoms.
  • Keep your immune system strong by eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep and regular exercise, and by taking care of underlying health conditions.

The main symptoms of COVID-19 are respiratory in nature:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

The safety, health, and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority. We are working in partnership with other school districts, state and local government, and public health agencies in order to be as prepared as we can be. We plan to offer regular updates over the coming days.

Stay well,

Crystal Gwyn & Candice Arditi
