Childswork Learning Center

Education Director Fall 2017 Newsletter

October is one of my favorite months of the year. The days are crisp, pumpkin carving is a joy to me, and the school year is back in full swing.

October is also a busy month at school. We scheduled our first conferences of the year on October 30 and 31. This is a chance to chat with your child's teachers and share some of your hopes, wishes, and goals for the year. This connection and communication is an important part of the work we do - we want to be partners in supporting your child through school. Though we set aside these days in the fall and two more in the spring for formal conferences and check-ins, please know we are always open to meeting with you throughout the year as your child changes and develops.

As a part of our fall conferences, we encourage you to fill out an "Ages and Stages Questionnaire". You will get more information on that in a separate message. This exercise can be a great place to start a conversation at the fall conference.

This year, we are doing a series of training sessions with one of our community members who is the Chief Happiness Officer for Happy Brain Science. Scott Crabtree will be leading us as we dive into workshops that highlight how our brain works, how we can communicate more effectively, how we can lead more effectively, and how we can be happier doing it. Many thanks to Scott for his work with us!

It's wonderful to see all the new faces at school and reconnect with all of our returning families. I look forward to building our relationships through the year.
