Childswork Learning Center

Explorers Director May June 2016

This week an alumni of Childswork came back to visit. A very lovely young women that is graduating from high school and still has very fond memories of Childswork. She started at Childswork when she was 2.7! She (and her mom) feels that Childswork helped shaped the wonderful young women she has become.

This influence we have on young lives is so profound to think about and a little overwhelming at times. We do this work because we love children and families and know with certainty that the early experiences shape those precious lives. It is a gift to us that families partner with us! A gift I will always cherish!

Twenty six years ago I began my journey at Childswork Learning Center. It was the perfect place for me. I had a degree in Early Childhood Education and after my youngest child began Kindergarten I was ready to use my education in a more formal way! At Childswork I found a group of teachers who were (and still are) passionate about their work with children. We were at the forefront of believing that children could and should be guided to problem solve with their peers and that children were capable of making choices that had been otherwise left to adults to manage for children. Over the years other teaching practices have changed to reflect current research in early childhood education. Childswork teachers have never stopped being excited about their own learning.

I was in a classroom for 22 years with 2.7's, 3 and 4 yr olds. It still thrills me to see a 4 year old write their name for the first time! The last four years I've been the full time Explorers/ Licensing Director. I can honestly say I've spent the last 26 years doing a job I love and feel I was meant to do!

It's been my great pleasure as well as an honor and privilege to serve families at Childswork Learning Center.

My future plans are to spend lots of time with my two year old granddaughter. I'll be traveling with my husband and 3 dogs in our "cabin on wheels". Hiking, backpacking, and kayaking are all on the list, as well as resuming walking half marathons with my extended family! Maybe we'll throw in a couple marathons! There is so much out there to do and explore and to learn!! I plan on being on the sub list so I'll look forward to checking in with all my wonderful co-workers and the great families that will still be here for a couple more years!

The Explorers program will be left in the extremely capable hands of Karen Kraemer, as the Director, and Connie Esteban, as the Teacher Coordinator. They will continue to pursue excellence as they work with our wonderful Explorers teachers. Our team understands the unique needs of children who stay a long day. They are dedicated to making the program the best it can be for these children and their families.

Good luck to all the wonderful families that have entrusted their children to us and made us partners in their children's early care and education.

Thank You All!
