Education Director May June 2016

It always amazes me how quickly our lovely city goes from its drab winter wear to such a vibrant green dress, scattered with colorful blossoms all over the place. Woe for the people with allergies, but so beautiful to see!

May is an equally lovely time of the school year. The focus is on Family Nights and celebrating the year together. Classes have reserved a night for the children to come back to school with their families to share their classroom, their work, and their connections with each other. These events are all unique to each classroom. Plays and concerts are common, but you may have a variety show, a game night, a potluck picnic, or even a joke show! Whichever avenue your class takes, this evening is meant to be a time to come together, a time to see your child's work throughout the year, and share all of that with your family. I attend as many as I can, so I hope to see you there!

I want to extend a big thank you to all our teachers and parents for the work they put in to our April conferences. It's important to celebrate our adult connections throughout the school, too, and support each other in this (all too short!) segment of a life of learning. I appreciate all the families that let me sit in on their conference. It means very much to me to be a part of those connections, too.

Summer Camp registration is moving along nicely. Make sure to get your registration in soon to secure a spot for the weeks you need. Summer Camp has a smaller capacity than the regular school year; get those forms in before it fills up!

You will start to see more information and requests for work parties in the next weeks. This summer we will transform the small playground into a natural playscape and will need as much community support as possible to make that a success. Mark your calendars for June 11 (for everybody!) and June 3 (if you have a strong back!).

This is our last newsletter of the year. Thank you all for the lovely flowers, cards, food, and support of our teachers. Thank you for another wonderful year of school.

I wish you all the best in all you do. I hope to see you this summer, too!
