Gardening News April 2016
Our school garden beds have awoken from their winter rest and the sunshine and rain have provided a perfect opportunity for the growth. We have peas in the lead for the fastest growing plant and towering over-winter fava beans covered with beautiful orchid-like blossoms. Spinach sprouts line the rows of one of our new vertical pallet garden beds and many hardy onion and garlic plants are sprinkled around in beds across our school. Strawberries and blueberries are starting to grow their little magnificent flowers-a sign that fresh, delicious berries are on their way. Let's not forget the colorful flowers popping up and gracing us with their presence. Oh Spring, what a wonderful time of year! In the coming month, classes will continue planting in their garden beds. Be on the look out for sunflowers, pumpkins, corn, beans and carrots.
Please join us later this month, Saturday, April 23rd for our Spring Garden Work Party. If you haven't been able to come before, now is your chance! :) We will meet from 9-12 noon on the big playground. We will provide light snacks and refreshments. All are welcome, young and old! We try to have many jobs so their is something for everyone. :)
