Gardening News March 2016

Although we are still technically in Winter, Spring weather is in full action. With the warmer weather and fluctuation of rain and sun, we are seeing many signs of Spring around our school and in our gardens.

Many classes have started their early Spring planting by introducing sugar snap peas to their garden beds. We have also planted spinach and will soon plant radishes, lettuce, and potatoes. With the help of volunteers at our last garden work party, we were able to move garden beds from our small playground area to the large playground. We also built three amazing vertical garden beds out of re-purposed wooden pallets. We have begun planting in one of the vertical gardens already and plan to plant more in the coming month.

Thanks to the help of protective kindergartners, we were able to introduce 2 new scarecrows to our playground...This is a great opportunity for you to discuss what a scarecrow does to help our gardens.

Check out "Our Learning Garden" bulletin board located upstairs across from the restrooms. This is a place for you to view photos of children and community members in our garden areas. This is also a fun place to see seasonal activities you can try with your child at home.
